Are Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un romantically involved with each other? We may never know, but if you’ve ever thought to yourself, “Man, they definitely got a thing for each other,” then you are in for a treat: “Baby, What We Got Is Real!” imagines the titanic trio in a 3-way bromance!
I recorded a new, lo-fi acoustic song called “Just Killing Time.” On a recent Saturday morning during this fine Covid-19 pandemic, I awoke, made my morning coffee, and sat down on the couch in the sun. In an effort to avoid doing stuff on my computer, I picked up my guitar to start a new song instead – I just wanted to live in the moment. Honestly, I think we […]
I’ve posted a new video on YouTube! I recently recorded it in Mazunte, Mexico. It was totally down to the wire because the NPR Tiny Desk deadline was February 2. Despite the pressure, I was able to enter it on time. We’ll see if it is accepted and anyone likes it. I sure hope so. And I hope you enjoy it too! JN
My travels recently took me through Nicaragua, and I remembered the Clash put out a triple album named Sandinista!, so I felt it would make for a good post. If you recall, the Clash were never shy about social topics or politics in their music (e.g. “Spanish Bombs“), so the name Sandinista! shouldn’t come as a surprise. Without being longwinded (you can read more via Google and Wikipedia), the album title refers to the rebels, i.e. the […]
The idea for this post started out when I remarked to myself, “Why didn’t I know about this album before?!” as I listened to Wild Light’s LP Adult Nights. My original intent was to write about creeper albums, i.e. albums you don’t find out about until later than you should have, or albums which a friend shares with you, but you don’t get around listening to for a while. Such was the case […]
I recently spent 3 weeks in Cali, Colombia, and it was fantastic! The weather was nice, the people were friendly, and salsa dancing was everywhere. And by that I mean the people dance salsa like they breath air. I stayed in the Granada neighborhood, and just around the corner there was a strip of clubs on Avenida 6 that were jamming all the time, plus there were plenty of other cool dance clubs […]
Have you ever gone scuba diving? I never had until a week ago. I consider myself a fairly non-aquatic person, not quite a landlubber, but for most of my adult life, I haven’t ever ranted and raved about swimming or water sports. Being from West Michigan and growing up next to Lake Michigan, I definitely have an affinity for water, but again, it’s more the desire to go to the beach, […]
Captain’s Log: November 3, 2014, Mancora, Peru. I recently arrived in Mancora, a sleepy little beach town on the north coast of Peru not far from the border with Ecuador. The bus ride was long, 18 hours, and I was tired when I got into town, but I perked up as soon as the warm rays of sunshine hit my face. After the cold weather in high altitudes (La Paz, […]
